Mach wavelet

Mach wavelet
Small shock waves, usually present in large numbers in boundary layers and around the surface of a supersonic body. The bow wave becomes progressively weaker as it gets farther from the aircraft, eventually becoming a very weak Mach wave. Also called a wavelet.
